#11 Projek Meja : Table base reinforcement and installation

From the last post, I proceeded to brace the table frame by adding corner braces to the apron, and also cross members to allow fixing the table top later (by screwing from below).

First, cut wood.  Four corner braces, and two cross members.

Then to install them on the table frame.  Here's a zoomed in pic on one of the corner brace.  The braces are screwed to the apron from the outside as shown by four screws for each corner brace.

Lastly to install the cross members.  These are also screwed to the apron from the outside.

Frame completed!  The client said no need to finish it with painting, etc. so I stopped work at this point.

For installation, the table was dismantled for transport.  In this dismantled state, I took the opportunity to route a bevel on the lower cross brace, so that folks resting their foot on it (they will be barefooted in the client's office) would not feel any sharp corners.  Transporting the parts in my car was uneventful, and so was the reassembly at the client's site.

The last step was of course to fix the table top to the frame.  Here I found out the the table top was super heavy.  The table top was laid down on the floor, and the frame was turned upside down resting on it, centered, and screwed to the table top.  The completed table then turned right side up and "tested".

End result - a functional table for meetings.  The table was a bit wobbly though, especially along the long side of the table.  In retrospect, I would have added additional corner braces along the long side to reduce this wobbliness.

Unfortunately I did not take the final pic to show, maybe I'll add it later if I can.

In summary:
1.  Functional and stable table
2.  Table legs maybe could be thicker
3.  Corner bracing must consider long side too.  best if all sides
4.  Client satisfied.  After several meetings at the table, nobody noticed the raw finish and the wobbliness.

This concludes Projek Meja.
